There seems little in reducing interest rates because the lower interest rates are ineffective and the Bank of England reductions in base rates prove unpopular savers and borrowers. The pound sterling is falling against the dollar and euro. Savers are not rewarded for saving money and reducing interest rates are fully passed on mortgage borrowers and businesses.
Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling asking us to spend more in an effort to keep the economy afloat. Spending money is the last thing on people's minds when they are afraid for their jobs when the recession starts to bite and his first thought is to save for a rainy day.
The buzz
The British government may consider printing more money to revive economy and to facilitate the freezing of banking on loans for borrowers. Quantitative easing has been used recently by the Japan Bank between 2001 and 2006 fight against domestic deflation. This policy has failed to stop deflation and academics agree if the current technology actually worked. In Zimbabwe, President Robert Mugabe has been printing money for years with horrible results. Printing money is a remedy of last resort and should be used only in extreme situations, because it causes inflation!
Alistair Darling Chancellor Exchequer does not print the word "money and he said that the Treasury is considering other ways to stimulate the economy. The Chancellor said that if the government use of quantitative easing on the government to play an active role in how they are used and not the Bank England. Maybe we should ask the quantitative easing that it sounds better than printing money is what the Americans call it and by all accounts have already begun printing greenbacks. Billions of dollars!
Governments use quantitative increase in the supply of money into the banking system to provide banks with additional capital. The problem is easing quantity is how much money the government printing and when to stop printing money for failing to control inflation. The government can also control the process of quantitative expansion through the sale of goods purchased with newly printed money. Inflation is one of the greatest dangers of printing money or the use of quantitative easing.
So how could the government implement quantitative easing?
It would be the Bank of England to give money to banks in exchange assets, such as buying government bonds, corporate bonds, bad assets and toxic mortgage debts. The Government the effects of purchase debts such as mortgages and bonds in exchange for government money and then become liable for the debt or I have to say the taxpayer becomes liable for the debt. This can put more money into the banking system. The hope is that banks provide extra money for us so that we will spend more. The quantitative easing is very risky and should be practiced safely and with caution.
In the words of George Osborne, Shadow Chancellor "print money is the last refuge of a desperate government when all other policies have failed. "The government must find a monetary mechanism to fight against deflation. We all know that inflation is relatively well controlled by raising and lowering the Bank of England base rate during the boom. If the Bank of England and government use relaxation quantitative and losing control of it we can see interest rates of 17% and 18% efficiency and increase inflation beyond this we could have imagined. Your thoughts, experiences and comments are welcome.
