Ideas to help very young foster children who have problems to solve during visits with his parents?
I am the mother of long-term foster 3 children, 2 years, 13 months and 4 weeks. The greater than 2 have been with me for almost a year and have overcome addiction problems and just started feeling more secure and confident around others. Visit their parents once a week for 2-3 hours, and often quite unstable, older tend to own booth in the corner hiding interactions, and my 13 months was very gray and get anxiety sometimes. The contact is supervised by an employee government resources, therefore, inappropriate for me to participate, and being young, I'm stuck for ideas on how to prepare and better support. I show them pictures of his parents, and speak positively of them, try to introduce children to visit, etc., and also acknowledge their feelings when they return home, many hugs, etc. have any suggestions on how I can make it easier and better for them?
You sound like a great mother! You seem to do everything we can do to show photos of children and their parents to talk positively. Both are very young, and were with you, because they were children. It is probably time to have a very difficult to think of their parents as "parents". Perhaps they fear that if the worker is your government for the visit, they will not return.
